Objective: to search for the relationship between the transverse diameter of the cerebellum and gestational age in the Burkinabe fetus.
RESUME
Methodology: descriptive cross-sectional study carried out from November 2016 to December 2018. The population consisted of Burkinabe pregnant women who had consulted for a fetal ultrasound. Inclusive monofetal pregnancies, with no obvious fetal or annexal morphological abnormalities, no known maternal pathology, with a known date of last menstrual period. The data collected were maternal age, gestational age, and transverse diameter of the cerebellum.
Results: We included 537 cases during the study period. The average age of gestants was 28.89 years. Mean gestational age 29.19 years. The average transverse diameter of the cerebellum was 36.44 ± 10.98 mm, with extremes of 17 and 59 mm. There was a linear increase in the transverse diameter of the cerebellum with gestational age. The Pearson correlation coefficient was measured at 0.96.
Conclusion: The measurement of the transverse diameter of the cerebellum can be used for the dating of even late pregnancies in our context.
