Ultrasound is the first-line radiologic test for the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and screening for complications. The sonographic report (SR) must fully state the details necessary for the care of the patient as recommended by relevant guidelines.

Objective. To determine the conformity of abdominal SR for cirrhotic patients in three university hospitals in the city of Yaoundé.

Patients and methods. We carried out a descriptive cross-sectional study by evaluating the conformity of 783 reports of abdominal ultrasounds performed in cirrhotic patients using the guidelines “Monitoring of patients with uncomplicated cirrhosis and primary prevention of complications (2007)” and “Indicators for ’improvement of the quality of the radiological report (2015)” from the High Authority of Health in France.

Results. The median overall conformity score for SRs was 82% [55% - 91%] with a better score for SRs written by radiologists (91%) compared to those of radiology residents (82%, p <0, 01). The median “semiological compliance” score for SRs (diagnostic and monitoring criteria for cirrhosis) was 62.5% [0% - 100%]. The rates of omission of the device used (100%), the speed and direction of the portal flow (95.5%), and the presence (or absence) of a suspect hepatic nodule (80.46%) were the highest.

Conclusion. Abdominal SRs in cirrhotic patients should be routinely reviewed by radiologists before they are transmitted to the requester. Training sonographers in the conformity criteria of SRs could improve conformity scores obtained in this study.

RÉSUMÉ

Introduction.

Résultats. Le score médian de conformité globale des CR était de 82% [55% - 91%] avec un meilleur score pour les CR rédigés par les radiologues (91%) par comparaison à ceux des résidents de radiologie (82%, p<0,01). Le score médian de « conformité sémiologique » des CR (critères diagnostiques et de surveillance de la cirrhose) était de 62,5% [0% - 100%]. Les taux d’omission de l’appareillage utilisé (100%), la vitesse et le sens du flux porte (95,5%), et la présence (ou l’absence) de nodule hépatique suspect (80,46%) étaient les plus élevés. Conclusion. Les CR d’échographie abdominale chez les patients cirrhotiques devraient être systématiquement revus par les radiologues avant leur transmission au demandeur. La formation des échographistes aux critères de conformité des CR en contexte de cirrhose pourrait améliorer les scores de conformité obtenus dans cette étude.</p>}, number={4}, journal={Journal Africain d’Imagerie Médicale (J Afr Imag Méd).}, author={admin, admin and MOULION TAPOUH Jean Roger and KOWO Mathurin Pierre and MANTOT SOH Rosine Elvige Laure and Joshua TAMBE and MBALLA AMOUGOU Jean Claude and NSENGA DJAPA Guy Roger and NJOYA Oudou}, year={2021}, month={Jun.} }
